How it Works

What Are Implant Restorations?

Dental implants consist of two basic parts: the implant and the restoration. The implant itself is a small, screw-shaped piece of titanium that is implanted into your gums and jaw. Once an implant dentist places your implant, it integrates into your jaw and functions as an artificial root.

The implant restoration is the dental prosthesis that is used to restore your tooth and complete your smile. This prosthetic consists of an abutment and a dental crown. Once the dental implant has healed and integrated into your jaw, your restoration will be permanently attached to the implant to replace your missing tooth.

Restore Your Missing Tooth

Single-Tooth Restorations

At Messenger Family Dentistry, we offer high quality single-tooth restorations. Using the latest techniques, we will take images and impressions of your mouth after your implant has been placed. Then, Dr. Messenger will work closely with a local dental lab to create a precision-crafted dental abutment and dental crown which looks, feels, and functions just like a natural tooth.

Once your single-tooth restoration is complete and your dental implant has healed, you’ll simply come in for a final appointment at our office. Dr. Messenger will check the fit of your crown and bond it in place permanently, completing the dental implant process.

Caring for Implants

Keeping Implants Healthy

One of the best things about implant restorations is that they do not require a lot of special care, unlike alternative treatments such as bridges and partial dentures. To care for your single-tooth restoration, simply maintain good oral hygiene habits. Brush at least twice per day, floss once per day, and see Dr. Messenger every six months for a routine cleaning and check-up.

All you have to do to care for your new implant restoration is to treat it just like a natural tooth. As long as you take steps to keep your mouth healthy, your implant restoration can last 15+ years without replacement. The implant itself will last 30+ years, and most patients keep their implants for the rest of their lives.
